This interactive workshop focusses on the essential frameworks for identifying and managing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) risks within your organisation.
As we navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape, establishing a robust AML/CTF risk assessment is the cornerstone of a resilient compliance program. This workshop is designed to empower senior leaders and compliance professionals with the clarity and tools required to strengthen their internal safeguards effectively.
This practical, instructor‑led session is designed for Tranche 1 and Tranche 2 reporting entities ( i.e. legal, accounting, conveyancing, real estate and other designated services) that need to build or update their AML/CTF risk assessment in line with AUSTRAC’s expectations.
What this workshop will cover
In this 3‑hour session, we will explore:
- What AUSTRAC means by an AML/CTF risk assessment: Why evidence of reasoning matters more than tick‑box scoring.
- Identifying inherent ML/TF risks in your business: Mapping designated services, understanding real‑world risk drivers, and identifying where your business can be exploited.
- Applying AUSTRAC’s risk‑rating logic: How to assign Low / Medium / High risk, avoid common over‑ and under‑rating pitfalls, and apply judgement consistently.
- Documenting the risk assessment AUSTRAC expects to see: What good documentation looks like, common weaknesses, governance requirements, and alignment with AUSTRAC guidance.
- Linking risk ratings to controls: Using the risk assessment as a driver for controls, CDD, ECDD, screening, monitoring and review frequency and avoiding disconnects between policy and practice.
- Regulatory readiness and ongoing maintenance: When risk assessments must be reviewed, how AUSTRAC is likely to test them, and how to prepare for regulatory engagement.
Key Learning Outcomes
By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain and evidence AML/CTF risk decisions to AUSTRAC
- Complete a risk assessment that is aligned with AUSTRAC expectations
- Link controls directly to assessed risks
- Identify and remediate common weaknesses before regulatory review.
