Public Interest Disclosures in WA – Australia
Product Description
Whistleblowing in the WA public sector
Whistleblowers make Australia a better place, they bring integrity and transparency to our democracy.
– Kieran Pender, senior lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre
Public interest disclosures (PIDs) are reports about wrongdoing in the public sector that service the public interest. They alert oversight agencies to potential misconduct and allow for the investigation and prosecution of serious wrongdoing. In WA, public sector whistleblowing is regulated under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2003 (WA).
This course provides learners with an overview of the PID regime, from the types of wrongdoing that can be disclosed, to identifying Public Interest Information, and providing an outline of the personnel authorised to receive a PID.
Using a combination of scenarios and quizbased learning, this course ensures that learners are familiar with their statutory obligations and equipped with practical skills necessary for making a disclosure. The course also highlights the protections that whistleblowers have under the Act.
A dedicated manager’s module outlines the obligations on Principle Executive Officers, managers and PID Officers when receiving a disclosure, or referring a whistleblower to an authorised person. Risk management processes and mandatory PID policies are also explored in this module, as well as the rules surrounding the investigation of a PID.
Who should do this training?
